The News & Tribune reports most of the 156-acre property of Joe Huber’s Family Farm & Restaurant in Starlight was sold for more than $2.7 million.
Members of the Huber family purchased a portion of the property that includes the restaurant for $880,000, while businessman Sam Shine bought the majority of the farmland for $1.3 million, according to the publication. Two other bidders acquired smaller parcels of farmland and one parcel did not sell.
Jenna Huber Clem, whose father began the operation in the 1960s, says she will continue to run the business with her aunt and uncle. She says she plans to work with Shine, the founder and former chief executive officer of New Albany-based Samtec, who is looking to preserve the land.
"Nobody’s going to build a Walmart up here, thank goodness," Clem told the News & Tribune. "He’s an amazing man who is very generous. I don’t have the words to give him enough thanks for wanting to help us."
Clem and Shine had initially offered to acquire the entire farm for $2.5 million but were declined. You can read more about the auction in the News & Tribune.
