The league said the new branding and campaigns look to show the distinctive experience of student-athletes within the conference. According to a news release, the strategy lays motivation from the League’s four pillars, which are major cities, major experiences, major moves and major impact.
“The League presidents and chancellors launched this brand recharge to bolster pride across our League members and amplify the inspiring stories of our student-athletes,” Horizon League Commissioner Julie Roe Lach said. “This recharge modernizes our League brand while providing a message of unity and shared focus amid a dynamic collegiate athletics environment.”
The new logo is a modern extension of the current and still-to-be-used Horizon League logo. The new rendition incorporates the number one into the trademark H to symbolize unity, the release said.
“The imagery is built around the symbolism of the horizon, including the junction of earth and sky, the seamlessness of the student and athlete, the end of today and start of tomorrow and the possibilities beyond what we see,” the release said.
New social media branding will include the aforementioned hashtag, sunset emojis and references of “golden hour,” a phrase used to describe when natural light is more golden usually the sun is rising or setting.
Indiana schools in the Horizon League include IUPUI and Purdue University Fort Wayne.
