Honda Exec: At 10, Greensburg Plant Outpacing Expectations

Subscribe NowState, city and company officials have marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of Greensburg-based Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Inc. and the plant manager says activity continues to boom at the 1,600-acre operation. "The business, I think, has grown beyond our original expectations from 10 years ago," Tim Reisinger told Inside INdiana Business. Initial plans called for 1,000 jobs and today, it employs more than 2,500. Production has also multiplied as the Civic Sedan, CR-V and the electrified Insight now roll off the lines at a clip of over 250,000 per year.
Reisinger said the Decatur County operation will continue to play a large role in Honda’s future. "We’ve got a vision inside of our company that by the year 2030, two-thirds of our vehicles will be some sort of electrified vesicle and the Insight (built) here in Greensburg, Indiana was our latest entry into that market, and we think that type of technology will continue to grow and we’ll grow with it," Reisinger said without knowing specifically how that growth will play out at the Greensburg plant. Honda began Insight production this year.
When the plant launched, it was building 400 vehicles per day, a figure that has ballooned in 10 years to 1,000 per day. Reisinger credits the area’s highly-skilled workforce and the state’s support for the plant’s success. More than 1.6 million vehicles have been built in Greensburg in the operation’s first decade.
