Hogsett Launches Youth Leadership Council

Subscribe NowIndianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has established a youth advisory group that seeks to develop the next generation of leaders in the city. The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council will consist of 25 teens from throughout the city to provide insight and feedback on community issues to Hogsett and other city leaders.
The council was developed in partnership with Lilly Endowment Inc., the Indianapolis Foundation, Leadership Indianapolis and the Marion County Commission on Youth. Hogsett says he hopes the council will elevate the role of young people in making Indianapolis a better city.
"The future leaders of Indianapolis are bright, passionate, and inspired – their voices are needed to help ensure not only the success of our city today, but for the generations to come," Hogsett said in a news release. “The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council will empower Indianapolis’ young people with the fervent belief that their influence can cause the positive and lasting change that our city needs."
High school students in their sophomore or junior year can apply to be part of the group beginning today. They will be able to serve on the council for up to two years as juniors and seniors. The teens chosen for the council will represent all of the city’s nine townships and Hogsett’s office says they will also represent the city’s rich diversity.
Lilly Endowment has provided a $220,000 grant to MCCOY to fund the launch of the council and staff positions for the first two years. The Central Indiana Community Foundation, the parent of the Indianapolis Foundation, has committed an additional $30,000 in the 2018-2019 academic year.
