The two organizations have chosen Ice Miller LLP in Indianapolis as a consultant to help devise the plan.
The organizations say the plan will lay groundwork for becoming a Certified Indiana Broadband Ready Community and will identify areas of the county that struggle with broadband coverage on a priority basis.
Chamber President Lisa Long says the plan will not specifically fund or identify projects but will map areas in need of broadband infrastructure, find the greatest return on investment and implement a strategy.
“The pandemic, while illustrating the dire need for broadband infrastructure to every home and business that needs and/or wants it, also provided the time to reflect on our investments. It was the Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors that recognized the need to take a step back and prioritize our financial investments to ensure that the funds entrusted to us by our members is realizing the greatest return possible,” said Long.
The organizations say the process begins with a virtual kick-off meeting September 28.
