Haas Cabinet Co. to close in Sellersburg

An 85-year-old cabinet manufacturer headquartered in Sellersburg is planning to close its doors this summer. In a notice to the state, Haas Cabinet Co. said the closure will affect 119 workers.
A specific reason for the closure was not provided. However, President Todd Haas, the grandson of the company’s founder, confirmed the move in a brief statement to Woodworking Network.
Haas Cabinet Co. was founded in 1939 by Carlos Haas, and its first manufacturing plant opened in 1944, according to the company’s website.
The Sellersburg facility totals about 350,000 square feet. In its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Haas said the layoffs will take place in phases between June 27 and July 11.
The affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. The company said it will provide COBRA benefits to the employees.
Haas also has an assembly plant and warehouse located in the community of Speed, just north of Sellersburg, though the company did not specify any plans for that facility to close.
