Groundbreaking set for Michigan City mixed-use project

Subscribe NowIndianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties will join officials in Michigan City on Thursday to break ground on a $101 mixed-use development. Known as The Franklin at 11th Street Station, the project will include 220 market-rate apartments and 5,600 square feet of commercial space.
The development is being built on 1.5 acres at the corner of 11th Street and North Franklin Street, near the new 11th Street Rail Station that is being built as part of the South Shore Line Double Track project.
When complete, The Franklin will feature apartment units ranging from studio to three bedrooms. It will also include coworking and conference facilities, outdoor lounge and fitness center, among other amenities, according to the project’s website.
A timeline for the project to be completed was not provided.
Michigan City Mayer Angie Nelson Deuitch will join Flaherty & Collins Properties CEO David Flaherty and Congressman Frank Mrvan, among others, for the groundbreaking ceremony.
The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. local time.
