Ground broken on Indianapolis affordable housing for families in recovery

The Volunteers of America Ohio and Indiana and Indy-based Seeds of Hope broke ground Thursday on the $11 million Marvetta & Anthony Grimes Apartments & Family Center project, located on the city’s west side at 1425 S. Mickley Ave.
The project is being developed by 2 Thirty-Eight Properties and Indianapolis-based RealAmerica Companies. RealAmerica will serve as the property manager when the project is complete.
“This new project is another profound example of how existing and new strategic partnerships deeply impact the people we serve and the communities where we live to create long-lasting change well into the future,” John von Arx III, president and CEO of VOA Ohio & Indiana, said in a news release.
The project is being supported in part with $1.14 million in annual Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, as well as $750,000 from the Indiana Development Fund, according to RealAmerica.
St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center will provide daycare services at the development, and Seeds of Change Free Clinic Inc. will provide medical services.

The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2025.
