The city says it is considering several redevelopment options for the eight-acre property, and will seek community input.
The property is the former home of The Patriot’s Table restaurant, but has no current tenants. The city says its assessed value has dropped by nearly half since 2012. Mayor Mark Myers says the site has become a "growing nuisance and source of concern," adding he is looking forward to hearing public input on the future of the property.
The city has awarded the contract for the demolition to central Indiana-based Denney’s Excavating Co. for $250,000. Demolition on the property next to the Greenwood Park Mall is expected to happen within the next 60 days.
