The school says the funding from the National Science Foundation will support efforts to better connect the campus to national research networks.
DePauw Vice President For Academic Affairs Anne Harris says the effort will allow the school to move large amounts of data through its campus and partner institutions more efficiently.
"The benefits will be felt throughout the DePauw campus," says Harris, "and will open up all sorts of possibilities for our students and their faculty collaborators to produce research at the national level."
The university says the project will significantly improve DePauw’s ability to transfer large datasets. That will enable faculty and student researchers to conduct stronger research in STEM disciplines and connect to on-campus and off-campus resources. DePauw says the improvements will impact projects already underway covering topics including heart regeneration, DNA sequencing and the role that video conferencing can play in helping underrepresented students advance in STEM fields.
