The program, being taught out of the Grace School of Business, will accept a dozen students in its first cohort.
The college said the goal of the program is to create a local talent pipeline in the orthopedic industry. Students will complete fellowships with local orthopedic companies as a part of the one-year hybrid program.
“This is a huge opportunity for those in the area who want to enter the orthopaedic industry as well as those currently working in orthopaedics with a desire to pursue more specialized education,” School of Business Dean Jeffrey Fawcett said in a university news release. “The Orthopaedic MBA program combines a strong business education with fellowships at multi-billion dollar global enterprises, giving students a world-class opportunity, so we expect the application process to be competitive.”
The Orthopaedic MBA is a 39-credit hour program. It includes nine general MBA courses taken online as well as several in-person orthopedic courses taken in-person on the Grace College campus in Winona Lake.
Students in the program will work Monday through Thursday at two six-month, paid fellowships at local orthopedic companies. On Fridays, students will attend class on campus where courses will focus on professional development and soft-skill development.
Fellowship placement will be determined via an interview process and based on the needs of local companies. Warsaw-based OrthoWorx is one such company partnering with the university.
“We believe that initiatives like this are critically important for developing the local talent pipeline that our orthopaedic industries need in order to stay competitive and that our region needs to remain the Orthopedic Capital of the World,” OrthoWorx Vice President of Operations and Engagement Allyn Decker said. “Students will not only receive excellent academic preparation, but also practical skill-building opportunities and hopefully rewarding local job opportunities.”
The program is open to students who will have completed an undergraduate degree by May 2024 and have at least 3.2 GPA. Applications are due March 22. More information about the Orthopaedic MBA program can be found online at online.grace.edu/programs/orthopaedic-mba.
