Grace College student and Plainfield native Kiersten Martin was awarded $5,000 for her business, All ABoard Educators, during the college’s 11th annual Business Plan Competition. Martin plans to use the prize money to build a website, register an LLC and purchase inventory to launch her bulletin board decor business.
Martin, an elementary education major, says All ABoard Educators allows teachers to decorate their bulletin boards instantly, saving time and freeing them to focus on their students or with family and friends.
“This idea was born from my wanting to be a kindergarten teacher and wanting to have my classroom decorated, but not wanting to spend the hours it currently takes to decorate my bulletin board,” said Martin. “I have been thinking about this idea for a while, but this class gave me the resources both in mentors and finances necessary to make this dream of mine a reality.”
The college says Martin’s business idea was supported by the local Service Corps of Retired Executives Team, who helped fine-tune her business plan and finalize details.
Martin plans to officially launch her business within the next year.
