On Tuesday, Landmark Properties, based in Athens, Georgia, announced plans to build a 253-unit student housing community on the corner of Pierce and West Wood Streets, near the Purdue University campus. The new development will be called The Standard.
Landmark Properties declined to give the total estimated cost of the project when asked by Inside INdiana Business. The company is shooting for a completion date in the fall of 2027.
To hold the approximately 250 units and almost 700 beds, The Standard features over 240,000 square feet of residential space. In addition, there will be over 18,000 square feet for amenities like a rooftop clubhouse, fitness center, gaming lounge and study spaces.
In a news release, Landmark CEO Wes Rogers noted Purdue’s increasing applications and enrollment as a catalyst for the investment.
“We are pleased to bring The Standard at West Lafayette to the Purdue University community,” Rogers said. “For the 2023-2024 academic year, Purdue reported its ninth consecutive record-breaking year for applicants and enrollments. The West Lafayette campus noted an all-time high of more than 52,200 students, with the majority living near campus. The Standard at West Lafayette is a response to the demand for high-quality off-campus housing.”
In 2021 Purdue reported an enrollment of 49,639. Two years later in the most recent school year, that number increased to 52,211.
The West Lafayette development is the second for Landmark Properties at a major Indiana university. Last year, the company opened a similar student-housing development for Indiana University students in Bloomington, which was the largest student housing project in the city’s history.
