The district, which is preparing to regain local control later this year, will host in-person and virtual community forums next week to gather feedback.
Gary Schools has been under state control since 2017 due to financial struggles that threatened the district’s future. That control will revert back to the district on July 1, and the search for a new superintendent was launched in January.
As part of the process, the district is looking to the community to identify what residents believe are important in the selection of the new leader.
“It is extremely important to the Board that we engage all stakeholders in the creation of a district leadership profile to assist us in the search process,” the district said in a post on Facebook. “In particular, we are committed to ensuring that we include the voices of all community members and stakeholders through a variety of community engagement activities.”
The in-person community forum is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gary Area Career Center, located at 1800 E. 35th Avenue.
For those who cannot attend the in-person forum, a virtual event will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, though participants must register no later than today via email.
Additionally, an online survey is currently open, running through Feb. 17, and is open to everyone in the community to submit comments.
