Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the commission on Tuesday reauthorized the consolidation and relocation of the gaming operations of two Majestic Star casino boats to a 30-acre site in Gary.
The publication reports Indianapolis-based Spectacle Entertainment hopes to close Friday on approximately $400 million in financing for the Hard Rock Casino which is planned for the site.
Spectacle says it intends to keep the casinos at Gary’s Buffington Harbor operational until the new gaming facility is about to open.
The company intends to open Hard Rock Casino in about a year.
Our hope is still to be open on New Year’s Eve of next year. Realistically, that may be a goal that’s too ambitious,” said John Keeler, vice president and general counsel for Spectacle Entertainment. “A lot of it is going to depend on the weather.”
Keeler says heavy equipment is already on the property, ready to move forward with the 225,000-square-foot entertainment facility.
