In 1971, Palmer was behind the wheel of the Indianapolis 500 pace car when he lost control and crashed into a photographer stand injuring more than two dozen at the start of the race.
Palmer purchased and Pebble Brook Golf Course in Noblesville in 1975 and invested in improvements. It now includes 36 holes and has hosted several state-level golfing events throughout the years.
Palmer was born in Starke County on October 31, 1928 and was a graduate of Butler University.
A gathering is set for Tuesday afternoon from 4 until 7 and a funeral service will take place Wednesday at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. You can read more about the arrangements and Palmer’s life by clicking here.
