The office uses a direct primary care (DPC) model, which allows patients more direct access to care with little wait times through a membership-based practice.
The FreedomDoc Batesville practice is the first clinic of its kind in rural Indiana, according to Freedom Healthworks. The DPC model allows patients to pay their physician directly, typically a flat monthly fee, rather than billing.
Freedom Healthworks says its doctors will have a maximum of 500-600 patients as opposed to a traditional insurance-based practice that needs 2,000-4,000 patients. That gives patients the ability to get same or next-day appointments and direct access to a doctor via phone, text, or video messaging.
The FreedomDoc Batesville office is led by Dr. DeAnn Brewer, who is currently enrolling new patients, but will only accept a limited number in order to maintain extended face-to-face visits with patients.
“Joining FreedomDoc gives me back time with my patients and allows me to put their well-being first,” Brewer said in a news release. “I look forward to getting to know my patients and taking as much time as we need to achieve their health goals and improve their quality of life. I believe true wellness means caring for the whole person in mind, body, and spirit.”
Freedom Healthworks opened its FreedomDoc Zionsville office earlier this year. In a July interview with Business of Health Reporter Kylie Veleta, CEO Chris Habig said the DPC model isn’t reserved for affluent customers.
“Most of our practices charge anywhere from $120 a month for all you can access primary care,” he said. “We price according to the local markets. We fully understand that the price in Carmel is probably going to be different than the price it’s going to be in Greensburg. We are able to price locally. We don’t just do a one-size-fits-all across the board.”
