Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report an unnamed Fortune 100 company is working with Illinois-based developer Venture One Real Estate to build the facility near the Lake County town of Lowell.
Attorney Jim Wieser, who is representing both the company and the developer, said the distribution center, to be built along I-65 and State Road 2, could be expanded to 2 million square feet.
“This is going to be the Midwest distribution center of a Fortune 100 company,” Wieser told the publication. “This is huge for Lake County. It’s huge for northwest Indiana.”
In addition to the unspecified number of permanent jobs, Wieser said the project would create an estimated 1,200 construction jobs. The project is currently being considered by the Lake County Council.
Wieser said they hope to break ground in May after receiving all the necessary approvals.
“The plan is to build one large building that can be added onto,” Wieser said. “It will include offices, warehouse and distribution. It’s going to be bringing good high-paying jobs and well as construction jobs. It’s going to create so many jobs and be so beneficial for our area.”
A timeline for the project’s completion was not immediately known.
The project follows a banner year for industrial development in northwest Indiana in 2023, according to The Times. A record 2.4 million square feet of new industrial space was built in the region last year.
