The gateway markers will be placed at I-69 and Jefferson Boulevard, I-69 and Dupont Road, and U.S. 30 and Flaugh Road. All three designs feature the name of the city.
“Fort Wayne is a recognized leader in economic development opportunities, growing and thriving neighborhoods, and having an excellent quality of life. By adding decorative gateway markers along key areas in our community, it sends a strong message that we want to continue to be the best place for residents, businesses, and visitors,” Tucker said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to the positive impact that will result from the innovative and unique depictions of our great city.”
The city said the landmark sculptures located along I-69 will likely be completed before the work along U.S. 30 due to upcoming INDOT construction in the area.
A budget of $750,000 for the I-69 markers was approved by the city council last year, and the money will come from local income tax dollars. The approval of construction contracts and funding for the U.S. 30 gateway marker is expected to come in 2025.
