The city cut the ribbon on The Riverfront at Promenade Park, an $88.7 million mixed-use development, as well as a $2.6 million park space.
Construction on The Riverfront at Promenade Park began in February 2021. The six-story building includes more than 200 apartments, seven townhomes, and a 900-space parking garage, as well as 15,000 square feet of retail space.
The building also includes 30,000 square feet of office space occupied by Switzerland-based risk management firm Swiss Re Group, which employs about 200 people in Fort Wayne.
Additionally, the city celebrated the completion of Riverfront Park Phase IIa, which fills a missing piece of park space in the area and provides a connection between Promenade Park and Headwaters Park.
The park covers nearly and acre of land behind the mixed-use development on the south side of the St. Marys River. It is the first of a two-part second phase of the Riverfront Fort Wayne redevelopment effort.
“We’re passionate about having unique quality of life amenities, providing opportunities for success, and being a welcoming community. The public and private investments along our riverfront do all of those things,” Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry said in written remarks. “I continue to be amazed and encouraged by the ongoing interest and support as we work together to build on our successes with riverfront development.”
The city did not give a time frame for the beginning of Phase IIb, which will feature new trails – including a new section of the Tree Canopy Trail – as well as an open-air pavilion, wetland boardwalk, and new boat docks, among other amenities.
