However, the Daily Journal reports the majority of the affected employees are expected to be hired by a new contractor.
MTC, which operated and did business as the Atterbury Job Corps Center, said in a letter obtained by the Daily Journal that it was not selected by the U.S. Department of Labor to continue operating the facility.
“MTC greatly values our employees, and we are grateful for their extraordinary work and commitment to preparing Atterbury students for success in the job market and in life,” MTC Director of Communications Emily Lawhead said in a statement to the publication. “During contract transitions, we expect the vast majority of our staff to remain at the center and be employed by the new contractor.”
The Atterbury Job Corps Center provides free career training and education for low-income 16-24 year-olds, according to the organization’s website.
The layoffs went into effect on Nov. 30, though the WARN Notice filed with the state was not filed until Dec. 13. The notice did not specify what positions were being let go, but said the affected workers would receive COBRA benefits.
MTC said in the letter that Adams & Associates took over operation of the facility, effective Dec. 1.
