The family-owned company is planning to locate its smoked meat processing operations to a facility in Redkey and add up to 20 employees by 2019.
Following the completion of electrical improvements, the company says it could be operational by the end of the month. Fisher Meats is also planning to upgrade another Jay County facility located in Portland.
Co-owner Mike Fisher says "we are very fortunate to live and work in an area that appreciates locally-produced, quality food products and for some time we have been looking for opportunities to expand our operations in the nearby geographic area. Indiana has many programs, such as the Indiana Grown initiative, in which we participate, that support small businesses as well as the local agricultural community. After considering all of the options, it was clear that Indiana was the best place for us to continue to grow."
The company says the "farm-to-table" movement and distribution growth have led to the need to expand. Fisher Packing Co. has been offered up to $100,000 in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
