The appointments are the first for the governor following the passage of legislation that allows merit selection of judges in the county, instead of elections.
Charnette Garner (pictured), Jennifer Harrison (pictured) and Mark Jones will be sworn in on or after January 1, according to Holcomb’s office. They will replace Judges Michael Keele, Becky Pierson-Treacy and Thomas Carroll, who are all retiring at the end of the year.
Garner currently serves as chief counsel for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and is a former assistant United States Attorney. Harrison currently practices law at Lewis & Wilkins LLP in Indianapolis and previously served as an attorney with the Marion County Public Defender Agency. Jones currently serves as a magistrate for the Marion County Superior Courts and previously served as an attorney with the MCPO.
The new judges were selected by 14-member judicial selection committee, co-chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa and Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Cale Bradford.
