Officials in Hamilton County have cut the ribbon on the final section of the Monon Trail in Westfield. The city says the new section completes more than 24 miles of trail connecting Sheridan to downtown Indianapolis.

Westfield Mayor Andy Cook and Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard joined other state and local officials Tuesday for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Hamilton County portion of the trail adds to the 10.4 miles of trail completed in Indianapolis in 2003.

In February 2017, the city of Carmel announced a multi-million-dollar plan to expand the Monon Greenway in the city.
