The Martinsville Common Council and Board of Works and Safety approved the partnership with AT&T in September 2022. The work is expected to be completed by September.
“AT&T is easily on target to meet its September deadline, with more than half of this project already complete,” Martinsville Mayor Kenny Costin said in a Tuesday AT&T news release. “In today’s digital age, fast connectivity is critical to everyday life.”
The Martinsville rollout is among several AT&T undertakings in the state, Inside INdiana Business reported earlier this month, including the recent completions of a $4.4 million project in Boonville and a nearly $40 million project in Vanderburgh County.
“We believe Indiana communities both small and large deserve high-speed fiber connectivity,” AT&T Indiana President Bill Soards said in the news release.
Statewide, nearly $1.5 billion in state and federal funds is being spent to bring high-speed internet access to areas of the state that lack it. According to the Indiana Broadband Office, about 300,000 Indiana locations had no or limited service three years ago. Today, that number is closer to 150,000.
