The NAFCU represents over 4,700 credit unions nationally and said it chose Liberty for the accolade for demonstrating an “exemplary” return to its customers and “remarkable, quantifiable success in meeting its members’ needs.”
The credit union said it returned $15.5 million to customers in dividends, ATM fee reimbursements and reward points in 2022.
“We’re humbled by this honor. But, more importantly, we are proud that our continued success has allowed us to provide a higher financial return to both our members and the community,” Liberty FCU President and CEO Bill Schirmer said in a news release.
The credit union totals 29 locations and has expanded into Kentucky and Tennessee. It has reported $3.8 billion in assets and credits it success to a high-yield checking account.
Liberty changed its name last year from the Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union, a move it said would better serve its entire membership.
