In a notice to the state, Meetings & Events International (MEI) said the move will result in the layoffs of 69 employees.
The company cited “recent unforeseeable and unexpected business circumstances” as its reason for the decision, though specific details were not provided.
MEI said the first round of layoffs will begin March 31, with subsequent rounds taking place April 30 and June 30. The company has an office located at 1314 Burch Road in Evansville, which will permanently close after all of the layoffs have been completed.
The affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. A request for more information from Inside INdiana Business was not returned.
MEI also has an office at 1348 West Concord Place in Chicago. The company provided a WARN notice to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, stating 32 employees at that office will also be laid off.
Meetings & Events International offered a variety of meeting planning and logistics services, according to its website, as well as live production services for streaming media.
