Parlor Doughnuts and farm-to-table restaurant Roots by Tree Hill Farms will be the development’s first anchors.
Earlham College officials broke ground in May 2022 on the college-owned retail center at National Road West and College Avenue in Richmond.
Work on the development comes as the college also recently renovated residence halls on campus. Additional tenants of the Earlham Commons development will be announced later this year, officials with the college said in a news release.
“Our anchor tenants will be unique to Wayne County and feature the kind of options that our students and employees are looking for,” Earlham President Anne Houtman said. “In addition to the obvious benefits for the Earlham community, this new development will encourage connections between the College and our neighbors in Richmond and Wayne County in a way that wasn’t available before.”
The Evansville-based Parlor Doughnuts has 50 locations across 13 states and Roots has just two locations; a restaurant and bar in Winchester and a deli in Union City.
StampD Development is developing the project with DeMao Retail providing leasing services. Thor Construction is the builder of the development.
“There hasn’t been a new multiple-tenant restaurant and retail center built on the west side for multiple decades,” DeMao Retail owner Del DeMao said. “We’re delighted to be working with Earlham College on this project and be a catalyst to grow the local food and dining scene.”
