The funding is designed to support projects that help unemployed or underemployed people to enter, return to, or advance in the workforce.
The DOL says the Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy and Training Disaster Recovery grants prioritize people whose employment was negatively affected by the pandemic, as well as those from historically disadvantaged communities.
Indiana’s grant is part of nearly $199 million awarded to 15 states, six tribal governments and one territorial government.
“The pandemic caused extraordinary disruption in our economy and disproportionately harmed people in disadvantaged communities,” U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh said in written remarks. “As we enter new phases in the recovery, we must ensure all communities have the support they need to thrive.”
The DOL says the grants will specifically support projects that help people find jobs in infrastructure, environment and climate, the care economy and other critical and growing sectors.
The largest grant awards, totaling $15 million, were awarded to agencies in Arizona, Georgia, the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Washington and Wisconsin.
