King will succeed David Wantz, who retired in 2022 but remained interim president of the Indianapolis-based organization.
ICI represents 29 of Indiana not-for-profit and private universities. King will begin her new role Aug. 1.
“Dr. King’s experience leading an ICI institution makes her the perfect fit for its next leader,” said Christopher Pietruszkiewicz, chair of the ICI board and president of University of Evansville, in a news release. “Her exceptional leadership and passion for students will serve ICI and Hoosiers very effectively.”
King has been with Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, a private Catholic institution outside Terre Haute, since 2002 and was named president in 2010. Under her leadership, ICI said the college experience record enrollments and an expansion of athletic offerings.
Her previous roles at SMWC include chair of the sciences and mathematics department, assistant dean for undergraduate and international programs and vice president for academic affairs.
“Having benefitted from ICI’s good work while serving at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, I truly believe in ICI’s mission serving all 29 private colleges and universities in Indiana collectively,” King said in the release. “I look forward to leading this important organization.”
King will step down as president of SMWC on July 1. The college said she will continue to serve as chancellor, which is an unpaid honorary advisory position, at the invitation of the board of trustees.
“This is a bittersweet moment for me because I love this institution and the incredible opportunities SMWC provides students,” said King. “I have decided to utilize all the lessons I have learned throughout my career to benefit many higher education institutions, including The Woods.”
The SMWC Board of Trustees has selected Vice President of Enrollment Management and Institutional Technology to serve as interim president until a permanent successor for King has been found. Randolph previously served as president of Harrison College in Terre Haute before joining SMWC.
