Don Wood Foundation awards $2.2M in grants

The funding includes grants through the organization’s Camps, Clubs and Competitions Mini Grant Program.
The majority of the grants, totaling $2.1 million, were awarded through the organization’s quarterly rolling grants efforts. The recipients and their projects receiving support from the funding are:
- Early Childhood Alliance – Stabilization and Expansion of Shared Services Network
- Grant Regional Career Center – WIRED
- MSD of Steuben County – Advanced Manufacturing Pathway at Angola High School
- Nearspace Education Inc. – Dream Big
- Questa Education Foundation Inc. – Manufacturing and Entrepreneurial Scholars Program
- Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana – Pre-Manufacturing Academy 2024
- The STEM Connection – Out-of-School STEM Education – Northeast Indiana Program
Expansion - Trine University – John and Mary Pellegrino Student Design and Training Center
The foundation’s Camps, Clubs and Competitions Mini Grant Program is “designed to fund programs that engage young people in technology, engineering or entrepreneurship in northeast Indiana.”
More than $72,000 was awarded to 13 recipients for the first quarter, including a robotics team that journeyed to the world competition in Texas, an entrepreneurial incubator class, and several exciting summer STEM camps for students of multiple age ranges and backgrounds.
“We are pleased to invest in programs that develop skills and the readiness to enter the workforce, particularly in ways that will serve participants for a lifetime,” Susan Mendenhall, vice president of programs for the Don Wood Foundation, said in a news release.
The mini grant recipients are:
- Baker Youth Club (Warsaw) – Baker Youth Club After School Program
- Bluffton-Harrison MSD – Bluffton-Harrison Elementary School – VexIQ Robotics Summer Camp
- Cardinal Services Inc. (Warsaw)- Robotics Club
- East Allen County Schools (New Haven) – Leo Elementary Robotics Program
- Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community Schools (Garrett) – GKB Ober Week
- Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana (Fort Wayne) – Young Entrepreneur Summer Camp
- Mississinewa Community Schools (Gas City) – Elementary VEX Robotics Competition Team
- Purdue University Fort Wayne – PFW’s Engineering, Technology and Computer Science
Outreach Program - Riverview Middle School (Huntington) – Raider Robotics
- Wabash City Schools Building Corp. – Computer Assembly Adventure Camp
- Wellspring Interfaith Social Services Inc. (Fort Wayne) – Wellspring Summer Day Camp
- Woodside Middle School Parent Teachers Club (Fort Wayne) – Woodside Middle School Personal Learning Block Class
- YMCA of Steuben County Inc. – YMCA Summer Day Camp
