It’s believed that he is the first Imam to ever direct a spiritual life program at a college in the United States. Aziz most recently served as Muslim Chaplain at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
He has worked with over a dozen educational and service-based organizations in the American Muslim community over the last decade and is founder of the Common Ground Institute. Aziz holds a master’s degree in Islamic Studies & Muslim-Christian Relations from Hartford Seminary and is currently in the process of completing his Doctor of Ministry degree at Hartford Seminary, where his research focuses on chaplaincy in higher education. He is also a public lecturer on Islam, interfaith work, and Muslim culture.
