Delaware County Approves Two Solar Energy Projects

County officials recently approved the projects that will be built near the towns of Gaston and Albany.
Chicago-based Invenergy says it intends to build the Meadow Forge Solar Energy project on a 350-acre site near Gaston within the next two to three years.
The other project is being developed by North Carolina-based National Renewable Energy Corp. Construction on the Hawthorne Solar farm near Albany is expected to begin in 2023.
“We’re very pleased to announce the Invenergy and Hawthorn Solar projects,” said Delaware County Commissioner James King. “These projects will be great additions to the Delaware County tax base and the Delaware County community.”
Delaware County officials say both projects will sell the electricity to utility companies or large users of electric power, but no specific name was mentioned. The county says developers chose the locations because of access to the transmission grid and regional demand for power.
