The Columbus-based engine maker said in a statement to Inside INdiana Business that it decided to sell the Irwin Office Building and Cummins Sears office building, though it was not clear how much the company was seeking for the properties.
Cummins said the sales of the buildings “will enable us to offer the ideal work environment for our employees and align with the workspace needed.”
The Republic reported this week that the buildings, which total more than 180,000 square feet have remained vacant since October 2022.
The Irwin Office Building and Conference Center was originally owned by Irwin Union Bank and Trust Co. and was sold to Cummins by First Financial Bank in 2010, according to the publication. Cummins acquired the former Sears department store building for $3 million in 2015.
“Cummins is dedicated to Indiana and specifically Columbus, our global headquarters,” the company said in its statement. “The rich history of Columbus is important to us and we will continue to do our part to make this a more economically and socially vibrant city.”
A timeline for completing the sales of the buildings was not provided.
