CSP Project Brings Economic Spark to Huntington

Jerry Reid will join Huntington Mayor Brooks Fetters and Indiana Economic Development Corp. President Jim Schellinger for a groundbreaking this morning at Continental Structural Plastics. Reid says new product lines sparked the need for the project, which could result in up to 180 new jobs.
Fetters believes the expansion marks the largest single capital investment by a company in the city’s history. Last month, he told Inside INdiana Business that Huntington beat out other communities for the expansion thanks to the region’s work force and economic development efforts. Fetters also credits the city’s quality of life and easy permitting processes.
CSP, which makes plastic components for vehicles, currently has about 320 employees in Huntington. Reid expects that to grow to close to 500 workers by the end of 2020. He says the company is hiring for positions including technical support, hourly floor workers and salaried engineers.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. Others scheduled to take part include CSP Chief Executive Officer Frank Macher, President Steve Rooney and Chief Financial Officer Jon Smith. The manufacturer is acquiring six acres of land to add about 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
The expansion comes as Huntington continues to reel from Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp.’s decision to relocate manufacturing operations from its Huntington operations to Mexico, eventually leaving about 700 without a job.
Reid says the expansion shows the MIchigan-based company’s commitment to Indiana.
