The goal is to raise $50,000 by March 6 in order to receive a matching grant through the Indiana Housing and Community Development’s CreatINg Places program. The splash pad and other amenities would be built on the west side of the Miami’s Fort playground at the 15-acre River Walkway Park, the IHCDA said in a news release.
“The splash pad will provide another quality of life addition to our community allowing for young children to play in a circus-themed splash pad,” said Brooke Robertson, director of business retention for the Miami County Economic Development Authority.
Donations can be made through the website Patronicity, a partner in the state’s CreatINg Places program. Since the program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $11.9 million in public funds and an additional $10.1 million in matching IHCDA funds.
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s secretary of agriculture and rural development, said the splash pad planned for Peru, a city of about 11,000 people 68 miles north of Indianapolis, demonstrates how the CreatINg Places program can be leveraged on behalf of an entire community.
“Maintaining viable recreation opportunities is important to the health of Hoosiers, and we need citizens engaged in developing these visions for their cities and towns,” Crouch said.
Similar CreatINg Places crowdfunding initiatives now underway include $50,000 for improvements to the Shoals Public Library, $50,000 for a new contemporary art museum in Indianapolis, and $40,000 for park lighting in Holland.
The program is available to nonprofits and local units of government for projects in Indiana with a minimum cost of $10,000. Recipients receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds, up to $50,000, for every $5,000 raised through Patronicity.
