‘Coveted Rivalry’ to Battle For The Monon Bell

This year’s Monon Bell Classic will mark the 124th time in-state rivals DePauw University and Wabash College have met on the gridiron. This year’s edition will take place at Blackstock Stadium in Greencastle. More than 10,000 fans are expected for an experience Wabash Athletics Director Greg Shaheen says "you can’t really even explain to someone" unless they watch it in-person or on television. During an interview last week with Bill Benner, Shaheen, who took the Wabash job last year after previously serving as the longtime head of NCAA championship events, described the fans at the game as "passionate beyond description."

The 2017 Monon Bell Classic will be televised on FOX Sports Midwest and FOX Sports Indiana and streamed on the FOX Sports GOapp. The rivalry is one of the oldest and longest-running in college football and dates back to 1890. The winning team receives possession of the Monon Bell Trophy, which has been around since 1932. Wabash leads the all-time series 60-54-9 and had won seven consecutive meetings before DePauw’s 37-34 victory at Hollett Little Giant Stadium in Crawfordsville last year.
