The company invested about $30 million in the facility located in the 1900 block of East 60th Street. Ryan White, Regional Production Director with Corteva, told Inside INdiana Business it chose Anderson as the site for the new facility because it’s near agencies they serve as well as its proximity to I-69.
“The facility is really there to help enable growth. [The] growth of our seed business and our Pioneer brands is the primary distribution we’ll be doing out of this facility,” White said. “With the square footage, the location and the ability to get our carriers in and out, it’s really going to set us up well.”
White said Anderson was an optimal location for a number of reasons.
Work on the 300,000-square-foot facility began last year. It will receive and distribute primarily corn and soybean seeds that will eventually end up on Indiana and Ohio farms.
“Our job is to get the seed there prior to the spring planting season. Being able to consolidate all of our products into this facility, it allows us to get that that product close to our customer and provide it in a timely and efficient manner,” White said. “It’s going to allow us to be very agile in serving our farmer customers.”
The distribution center is expected to bring around 40 jobs to the area. Corteva says it wants to be a good partner in the community. As part of the grand opening, the company donated $2,500 to Second Harvest Food Bank in Madison County and $2,500 to the Lapel, Indiana, FFA chapter.
“We’re excited to be here in in Indiana and continue to serve our farmers and especially the Pioneer brand from this facility,” White said.
IIB previously reported that according to the city, the project is expected to create $4.3 million in new tax revenue for Anderson during the initial term of Corteva’s 10-year lease.
