Companies Detail Closures, Layoffs

In separate notices filed with the state, the companies say the moves will affect workers in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Charlestown and Peru.
EDM Americas Inc. says it will lay off 88 workers from its facility on the west side of Indianapolis. The layoffs are expected to take place July 31, though the company did not provide a reason for the move.
Pennsylvania-based Penske Logistics says it plans to close its facility in Fort Wayne, affecting 80 employees. The layoffs are slated to begin July 20 and expected to be permanent.
"This required WARN notice was issued by Penske Logistics in response to a recent local trucking contract termination," the company said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. "As we have extensive trucking operations, Penske Logistics is working to identify other potential employment opportunities for these employees at other locations within the company once this contract concludes July 20. The majority of the associates are truck drivers."
France-based Schneider Electric has detailed the first round of layoffs that will come from the closure of its Peru facility first announced in February. The company says 32 employees will be let go over a two-week period beginning July 12, though more than 300 will ultimately be laid off. The Kokomo Tribune reported in April the company decided to move forward with the closure after negotiations to stay had failed.
Meanwhile, Elkhart-based manufacturer NIBCO Inc. says it plans to close its Charlestown plant operations, affecting 97 employees. The company says it sold one of its product lines and the plant itself to Michigan-based Viking Group Inc., which led to the decision.
NIBCO says while it doesn’t have a specific date for the closure, it is expected to occur in phases as Viking Group develops its own operations. The first layoffs are expected to begin July 19, though the company anticipates all of the workers to either be permanently separated, relocated within NIBCO or hired by Viking Group.
