Community Rehab Hospital Opens in Greenwood

Subscribe NowLouisville-based Kindred Healthcare LLC is celebrating the opening of its $6 million Community Rehabilitation Hospital South in Greenwood. Officials say the 44-bed hospital, developed in partnership with Indianapolis-based Community Health Network, created 150 jobs.
The facility is located on the site of a former long-term acute care hospital that Kindred closed last year. A spokesperson for the company says the 86 employees who were laid off after the closing of the previous facility were offered jobs at the new hospital, though it is not known how many of them accepted the offer.
The inpatient rehabilitation hospital offers care for adults recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and other conditions. Kindred operates 22 IRFs throughout the country.
“As our nation’s population ages, the demand for essential rehabilitation services continues to grow, highlighting the importance of adequate patient access,” said Jason Zachariah, president of Kindred Healthcare subsidiary Kindred Rehabilitation Services, said in a news release. “Kindred Rehabilitation Services partners with leading health systems to meet this demand and provide the best outcomes for this specialized patient population. Our IRF business is rapidly expanding as we capture opportunities to bring our rehabilitation expertise to new markets and meet the needs of the communities we serve."
The hospital is the third joint venture partnership between Kindred and Community. The health systems also collaborated on Community Rehabilitation Hospital North in northeast Indianapolis and Community Howard Specialty Hospital in Kokomo.
