A study commissioned by Clark and Floyd counties’ tourism marketing organization, SoIN Tourism, and conducted by Johnson Consulting found the new South Clarksville development area would push the project forward faster with lower cost.
The agencies also studied the former Jeffboat site in Jeffersonville and evaluated potential public-private partnerships, cost estimates, risk and site management structures in their comparison of the two locations.
Town leaders say the conference center aligns with their vision to transition South Clarksville from a former industrial site to a walkable community with retail, restaurants, parks and other recreation.
SoIN Tourism will work with the town throughout construction. Design and construction timelines have not yet been set.
“Johnson Consulting has provided us with more than enough evidence showing Southern Indiana is a prime location to host events and conferences,” SoIN Tourism Executive Director Jim Epperson said in a news release. “Now, with a preferred site identified, the real work begins as we advance this initiative further.”
The conference center would be the latest development for South Clarksville, following a planned $226 million project announced in January that would include two mixed-use developments from Louisville-based developer Denton Floyd Real Estate Group.
