Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report report the Chesterton Fiber Optics Network is already being used by more than 40 businesses and is available to more than 300 others.
Construction on the project began in January. The town has invested $1.5 million to install more than 15 miles of fiber.
The system is being managed and operated by Hebron-based NITCO, which has a 25-year contract with the city, according to the publication. President Tom Long says the CFON will make ready for business expansion and growth, creating jobs and increasing property values.
NITCO Senior Vice President Tom Carroll tells The Times the system’s size should be good for the next few years. He says the company has already begun planning for future expansion in order to attract more business development to the town.
