The chamber says the Mental Health First Aid series will teach employers how to identify the risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses.
The chamber says the series will feature three virtual group sessions and subsequent certification taught by members of the wellness council, who are certified MHFA instructors. The series will also help connect individuals with appropriate care options.
Wellness Council of Indiana Executive Director Jennifer Pferrer says the past two years have brought mental health needs to the forefront.
“This program is a timely and convenient vehicle for employers to assist their workers in this area,” said Pferrer. “This training takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people how to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder.”
Employers can attend one of three virtual group sessions hosted via Zoom on April 13, July 21 and November 9. The chamber says participants are required to complete a two-hour, self-paced online module before taking part in one of the sessions in order to receive certification.
The chamber says employers can also host on-site training sessions.
