Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report her resignation is effective immediately. Halaska’s resignation comes as the Southlake YMCA branch in Crown Point is undergoing a $35 million expansion that is expected to be completed by spring 2019.
Board members did not give a reason for Halaska’s resignation. The YMCA board has named Dennis Schoenebeck interim CEO. He served as CEO of the Greater Wichita YMCA for 25 years before retiring in 2016. Schoenebeck will oversee both the Southlake Y expansion and a $3 million renovation of the Hammond YMCA branch. He has been serving as a consultant on the Southlake Y expansion.
