In a notice to the state, the company said the move is due to a recent reduction in demand for its products from an unnamed customer.
Brinco said the customer requested the reduction because of a two-month “strike-lockout situation” that occurred at the customer’s location impacting production volume.
It was not made immediately clear which strike the customer was referencing. Brinco’s LinkedIn page refers to the company as being part of the railroad equipment manufacturing sector, but no other details are available.
The layoff will affect 43 permanent employees and 58 temporary workers. The layoff is expected to last less than six months.
Brinco did not state if the affected employees represent its entire workforce or just a portion. Multiple requests for more information were not returned at deadline Wednesday.
The affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights.
In 2019, Brinco announced plans to invest $52 million to occupy a former Chassix facility in Bristol and create 250 jobs.
