Founders Jason and Austin Bontrager said the move reflects their collective experience and legacy in the RV industry.
The Bontragers are former owners of Middlebury-based RV manufacturer Jayco, which was acquired by Elkhart-based Thor Industries in 2016. The pair left Jayco in 2017 and would go on to found Skinny Guy Campers and High Ground Outfitters in 2020.
Jason Bontrager, who serves as the company’s CEO, said the change marks a new chapter in the company’s story.
“With Bontrager Outdoors, our vision is to provide our dealer partners and end-users the best value in the industry from a name that is known and respected,” he said in a news release. “And while this is a big change, it’s important to emphasize what won’t change – our commitment to quality, affordability and support.”
Bontrager Outdoors employs 65 people in the Elkhart County town.
As part of the rebranding, the company said the Braxton Creek product lines previously known as Bushwhacker and Bushwacker Plus will now be known as its “Small Line” and “Standard Line,” respectively.
Bontrager Outdoors also plans to unveil two new additions to its product lineup in the coming weeks.
The name Bontrager Outdoors is not entirely new; it was previously the name of the holding company for Braxton Creek RV, Skinny Guy Campers and High Ground Outfitters. With the rebranding, the holding company’s name has been changed to Bontrager Industries.
