The company announced this week that President and CEO Staci Kroon plans to step down on April 1 after seven years in the role.
Kroon will be succeeded by Scott Nelson, who currently serves as president of North America Manufacturing for BraunAbility.
BraunAbility manufactures wheelchair accessible vehicles, wheelchair lifts, and wheelchair securement products. Kroon was named CEO in 2017, succeeding the retiring Nick Gutwein.
Keith McLoughlin, chairman of the board for BraunAbility, said in a news release that Kroon has made many important contributions to the company during her tenure.
“In addition to effectively steering the company through the Covid-19 pandemic, she has strengthened and expanded the capabilities of BraunAbility strategically, operationally, and organizationally,” McLoughlin said. “Her leadership has led to a doubling of the size of the company and record financial performance in 2023 and has enhanced the long-term profitable growth potential of BraunAbility.”
BraunAbility did not give an indication as to why Kroon decided to step down. In a statement provided to Inside INdiana Business, Kroon said it felt like the right time to step aside and invite new leadership to take over.
“Seven years ago, we set out a strategic vision for growth for BraunAbility. Together we’ve achieved that vision and more,” she said. “I’m forever grateful to the people at BraunAbility and the exceptional customers we serve, and I’m incredibly confident in the future of this company.”
Nelson joined BraunAbility in February 2022. In addition to his new role, Nelson will join the BraunAbility Board of Directors.
“We are fortunate to have in the company a talented and experienced business leader in Scott, who is well-prepared to step into the CEO position,” McLoughlin said in the release. “Scott is a proven leader, who is deeply familiar with our strategy, our team, and our products and services. We are confident and excited about his ability to successfully lead BraunAbility into the future.”
Nelson will official begin his new position on April 1.
Kroon led the $7.5 million effort to move BraunAbility’s headquarters from the Pulaski County town of Winamac to Carmel. The company received $1.3 million in incentives from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. for the move, which called for the addition of 70 jobs.
