The Bowen Center recently opened a new health clinic in Plymouth, co-located with existing outpatient services.
The new clinic will offer primary health care, mental and behavioral health care, addiction recovery treatment and life skills coaching services to all patients. The Bowen Health Clinic accepts Medicaid and officials say no one will be turned away for an inability to pay for services.
“As we grow our integrated care footprint in northern Indiana, we are helping more patients find accessible health care for their body and mind, no matter their ability to pay,” Bowen Center Board Member Carol Hochstetler said in a news release. “I am so pleased that those living in Marshall County have access to this important health care resource, especially vulnerable populations where oftentimes their health takes a back seat to other life challenges.”
But the new location will only be a temporary space. A spokesperson for Bowen said in an email to IIB’s Alex Brown that the organization is investing $6.5 million to build a new facility along U.S. 30 “that will house our mental and behavioral health, primary health, addiction recovery and life skills coaching services.”
A groundbreaking on the new facility is set for Sept. 29.
The Bowen Center began as a not-for-profit mental health center in 1961, specializing in services ranging from emotional health care to addiction recovery services. The center opened its first primary care clinic in 2020 in Warsaw and has co-located clinics with existing services in Fort Wayne, Huntington and Wabash.
“Our goal at Bowen Center is to create a seamless approach to health care,” Bowen Nurse Practitioner Laura Borsa said. “These clinic spaces are created with intention to provide multiple services in one building in order to strive towards that seamless care.”
The new Plymouth clinic comes as a time when Marshall County has seen a recent turnover in primary care providers, Bowen officials say.
“I am so proud that Marshall County Bowen Center has joined in providing primary care to help fill this void,” Bowen’s Marshall County Director Lindie Leary said.
The project will add five primary care jobs, bringing Bowen’s total employee base in Plymouth to 100. The organization employs about 1,300 across its entire footprint.
