The Wabash-based Bowen Center cut the ribbon Monday on an $8 million, 15,000-square-foot clinic in Columbia City. The new facility, located at 1259 E. State Road 205, will offer primary care, mental health care, behavioral health care, addiction recovery treatment and life skills coaching.
Bowen Center leaders worked with local officials to make sure the clinic offered services needed in the community.
“The community was adamant that we continue to grow and expand our mental health services and also provide high-quality primary care services for those who had difficulty accessing it currently,” Bowen Center Chief Operating Officer Shannon Hannon said in a news release.
The project is double the square footage of the organization’s previous site and features expanded offerings. About 2,500 square feet of “grey space” was built into the project, which is intended to eventually be filled with dental, optometry or more mental or physical health space determined by the needs of patients displayed in the clinic’s first years.
The facility has a modern feel, the company’s release said, and is nearby to a local hospital and the Blue River trail. The parking lot has also been expanded.
“The root of what we do is in the building. It’s the services,” Whitley County Director Mista Lauber said in the release. “It’s our heart. It’s Bowen Center’s heart to be able to help people live better lives, to live happier lives, to live longer lives.”
The clinic will have public information sessions in the coming months for interested residents.
