Shipman succeeds Bret Marsh, who is stepping down on Friday to become dean of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Shipman, a graduate of Purdue, will begin his new role on Saturday. He currently serves as director of the Board of Animal Health’s Animal Program Division.
Shipman is a USDA-certified Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician. The Board of Animal Health said he played a key role in the agency’s response to the avian influenza event in Dubois County in 2016.
The agency has begun a nationwide search to find a permanent successor for Marsh. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply online at the Board of Animal Health’s website.
